Where They Started

Adventure Life Vans was a fairly new semi-custom van build company that helps people live the adventures of your dreams. They were ready to refine their offering, which was a little confusing to customers, streamline their process to work with them, and grow their brand.

"Working with Megan and team took the stress out of a major website overhaul. Megan helped me prioritize the key improvements that would have the greatest impact on our business. And, helped me navigate tedious items like how to transfer our blog posts from an existing site - without a huge headache! Every step of the way, I felt supported not only in the website upgrade but also as a small business owner.”

How We Worked Together

Define and Discover

We sat down with Erica Davis, the co-founder of Adventure Life Vans, and her team to figure out the friction points of their business. They had a website but it was build on Wordpress and was years old, with a wood-panel background, which was at odds with the luxury and price tag for the vehicles.

During our team interviews, we went through their application process both for the semi-custom builds and for the repair arm of their business. For comparison, we conducted competitive audits for other van builders, looking over their website user flows and visual branding.

It was quite clear that the cost of doing nothing was a slow growth for the semi-custom offering and continued frustration around interactions with the repair customers.

Ideation

We discussed what a simplified version of the business looked like. What were the least number of steps needed for someone to book a repair appointment? What was the best way for custom build applications to be received? We also talked about what information would be beneficial for customers considering the custom build.

Evaluation

We worked with Erica and her team to help them consolidate their offering from three things into two, grouping repairs and upfitting because the application process and the customers were the same. They created a list of offerings on the page that allowed people to easily choose what they wanted and then there was a simple scheduling form. This reduced questions from customers and also reduced their missed appointments, since a deposit was required for certain services.

We helped the team create a new website that exuded the lifestyle of their customers and aligned with the value of their vans.

Road Mapping

We worked within the schedule of the website build so the first thing the team tackled was the new branding of the business. The offerings were then streamlined so that they could convey the offerings to the website developer, setting up a user flow that helps the customer easily make decisions. Erica also had her team work on categorizing the large blog library they had so that when it was moved over to the new site, they'd be able to filter the posts for different customers.

The Results

1 Month Later

We are working on a contract for build slot for September with a gal I met at my fall MTB retreat, so it is cool to see the client pipeline emerging there between the two businesses.

3 Months Later

We have a DIY builder who is slotted for more work with us this June. We do still have the current build for sale (still under construction) and the March build slot open. But we are overall seeing good traction on the website. This month and next, we are focusing on IG ads to drive email sign ups for our free downloads.
